Referee Jonathan Moss gets this game underway!
Hello and welcome to our live commentary of this Premier League clash between Chelsea and Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea had a tricky end to 2018. After mishaps against Wolves and Leicester in December lost his team ground in the race for the top four, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri will want his team to get back on track at the start of 2019.
CHELSEA (4-3-3): Kepa Arrizabalaga; Cesar Azpilicueta (c), Antonio Rudiger, David Luiz, Marcos Alonso; N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Ross Barkley; Willian, Alvaro Morata, Eden Hazard.
Chelsea's opponents today are Southampton, who have seen a revival under new coach Ralph Hasenhuttl. The Austrian's high-pressing style helped the Saints spring a surprise victory over Arsenal and has lifted them out of the relegation zone - but will their west London rivals be more savvy?
SOUTHAMPTON (3-4-3): Angus Gunn; Jannik Vestergaard, Maya Yoshida, Jan Bednarek; Cedric Soares, James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu, Yan Valery; Nathan Redmond, Danny Ings, Stuart Armstrong.
SUBS: Mohamed Elyounoussi, Alex McCarthy, Charlie Austin, Jack Stephens, Callum Slattery, Shane Long, Kayne Ramsay.
Not the greatest first half, but one in which Chelsea saw most of the play. Southampton have Gunn to thank that they aren't going in behind after a few timely interventions and one fine stop from Hazard. The visitors have mostly been disciplined so far but look limited. Surely Chelsea will win this in the second half.
That result leaves Chelsea three points clear of Arsenal in fourth, although they have to start worrying about Manchester United again - the Reds are now only six points behind them after their fourth consecutive win. Southampton drop to 18th after Burnley's 2-1 win away at Huddersfield.
Hard luck for Chelsea, then - Sarri's men must now turn their attention to the FA Cup with a home tie against Nottingham Forest this weekend. Southampton will travel away to Derby - they'll have faith they can get back out of the relegation zone on this evidence. That's all for now. Goodbye!
