Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Ligue 1 match between Strasbourg and Paris Saint-Germain.
Strasbourg brought an end to a four-match Ligue 1 winless streak with an impressive 4-1 victory away to Rennes on Sunday afternoon. The hosts will be playing with renewed confidence after that win and boast an impressive recent record in this fixture.
Despite being held to a shock draw by Bordeaux at the weekend, PSG are comfortably clear atop Ligue 1. It looks very unlikely that anyone will get close to Thomas Tuchel’s side this season after they won their first 14 league matches. Their lethargic performance at the weekend will be a concern for Tuchel, but they are still strong favourites to take all three points this evening.
Let's take a look at the teams for tonight's match, starting with the hosts.
STRASBOURG (3-5-2): Matz Sels; Anthony Caci, Lamine Kone, Pablo Martinez; Kenny Lala, Youssouf Fofana, Jonas Martin, Dimitri Lienard, Lionel Carole; Kevin Zohi, Nuno da Costa.
SUBS: Ibrahima Sissoko, Lebo Mothiba, Benjamin Corgnet, Duplexe Tchamba Bangou, Bingourou Kamara, Adrien Thomasson, Ludovic Ajorque.
PSG (3-4-3): Alphonse Areola; Thilo Kehrer, Presnel Kimpembe, Stanley N'Soki; Thomas Meunier, Marco Verratti, Adrien Rabiot, Moussa Diaby; Julian Draxler, Edinson Cavani, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
SUBS: Christopher Nkunku, Dani Alves, Kevin Rimane, Layvin Kurzawa, Kylian Mbappe, Gianluigi Buffon, Thiago Silva.
Strasbourg lead PSG 1-0 at half-time thanks to Lala’s penalty. With the assistance of VAR, the referee gave the hosts a spot kick for Kehrer’s handball a few minutes before the break. PSG lacked creativity in the first half and did not create much.
Tuchel will be very frustrated with his team’s performance. Cavani barely touched the ball in the first half and the midfield was short on ideas in possession. Strasbourg will be delighted with the score and their defensive display. Thierry Laurey’s side been very solid, though he will be a bit disappointed with his team in possession. They have been a bit wasteful and misplaced too many passes. Unless PSG improve drastically in the second half, it will not be long before Tuchel turns to Mbappe.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Laurey will be pleased with the result and his side’s resolute defensive display. Strasbourg face struggling Caen at the weekend and could be as high as seventh in the table if they win. Tuchel will be disappointed his side did not return to winning ways ahead of their massive Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade next week. PSG will undoubtedly be disappointed to drop more points, but they are hardly under pressure in Ligue 1 considering their 14-point lead at the top of the table.
