I. Hayden enters the game and replaces Ayoze Pérez.
WHAT A SAVE! Dubravka right at the death! It breaks for McTominay, a solid tackle prevents his charge but it falls to Mata. He cuts it back to Carrick and Dubravka gets down low to make a crucial save. Incredible!
Final change for Newcastle and a break in play once again. Hayden will earn a late cameo, whilst Perez gets a rest.
90' +3
Corner after corner for Manchester United. Newcastle starting to get a little desperate at the back. Every header won is cheered like a goal and Shelvey boots it forward for Joselu but he fouls Young.
90' +2
Corner for Manchester United and a chance to cause problems once again. Mata's delivery goes all the way through though and Newcastle get it away.
90' +1
FOUR minutes added on! Quite possibly the biggest four minutes of Newcastle's season so far!
90'
Just minutes left now and Newcastle have a valuable win within their sights, whilst Manchester United will remain 16 points behind their arch-rivals at the top of the table.
88'
A. Valencia gets yellow.
Valencia picks up a booking, as he clattered into Atsu with a high boot. It's a chance for Newcastle to run down more of the clock again.
86'
Foul from Jones on Joselu, around the sort of position where the build-up for the Newcastle goal started. It's a more defensive approach this time as the Magpies use it as an opportunity to give their defence a chance to catch their breath.
85'
If I'm picking out Dubravka for praise, it's only fair I mention Shelvey again. He's been excellent on the ball and without it, making key passes and key tackles. Gareth Southgate, are you watching?
84'
C. Atsu enters the game and replaces Kenedy.
Second change for Newcastle and Kenedy is sacrificed, Atsu now entering the fold.
83'
It's going to be a very nervy end for Newcastle, as this is the sort of result that can make or break a side's survival hopes.
Minute
Description
81'
Dubravka has been brilliant on his debut so far. I'd even say Man of the Match. Crucial saves, coming out to claim corners and he's kept Newcastle alive.
80'
Joselu enters the game and replaces D. Gayle.
Now Newcastle make their first change of the game, replacing Gayle with Joselu. Those fresh legs in the final third could be key to putting pressure on the ball.
77'
S. McTominay enters the game and replaces N. Matić.
BLOCKED! Massive moment! The corner drops in the area for Martial around the penalty spot and he smashes two attempts into Gayle twice, with it then cleared away.
Prior to that corner, Matic was replaced by McTominay. United now used all of their subs. Newcastle yet to make a change.
76'
United hit on the counter, with Martial lacking support before feeding through Lukaku, and a lofted cross to the far post is headed away for a corner.
74'
Newcastle still holding firm though, winning every 50/50 ball. Shelvey and Diame continue to be solid in the centre of the field, whilst the influence of Lukaku and Alexis has been restricted in the past ten minutes.
72'
Manchester United have responded to that goal by dominating possession, not allowing Newcastle to get out of their own half. An all-out assault on Dubravka's net looks to be on the horizon.
70'
How big a 20 minutes is this for Newcastle? As it stands, they've moved from inside the relegation zone up to 13th in the table. With matches against Liverpool and Tottenham to come over the next few weeks, this could be a decisive boost.
68'
SAVE! Brilliant once again from Dubravka! Young charges into the box and strikes a fierce effort towards goal, where the stopper palms the ball away. It requires a defender to put it behind for a corner but that comes to nothing.
66'
Mata enters the game and replaces J. Lingard.
M. Carrick enters the game and replaces P. Pogba.
The double change looked to be happening before the goal and the second change sees Mata replace Lingard.
Right on cue, Mourinho brings the end of a sorry afternoon for one of the world's most expensive players. Pogba has been terrible today and is replaced by Carrick.
65'
M. Ritchie has scored a goal for Newcastle United! Assist by D. Gayle.
GOOOOOAL! Newcastle take the lead! Shelvey pumps the free-kick into the box, it's headed down to Ritchie and he has plenty of space to work with. He tucks home with ease and gives the hosts an invaluable lead.
Gayle is the man with the knock down and questions need to be asked of Pogba, who didn't even bother putting him under pressure.
64'
C. Smalling gets yellow.
First yellow card of the game is issued for Smalling, who throws himself to ground under pressure from Shelvey. It's blatant simulation and gives Newcastle a free-kick just inside their attacking half.
62'
United continue to be sloppy with poor passes and it's making things easy for Newcastle. Matic and Pogba have both been guilty of that during the game, which makes you wonder if the pair will complete the full 90 minutes.
60'
Heading into the final half hour and it's still goalless. Newcastle are starting to be broken down though and that will be a concern for Benitez's side.
58'
The game is starting to open up and that's giving Manchester United room to work with. Lukaku is shining, Alexis is making his mark. They just need a goal.
57'
BLOCKED! Looked to be a certain goal for United! The Red Devils break, Lukaku pokes a ball through to Alexis and he rounds the keeper. He delays his shot and it allows the defenders to get back, which leads to Lejuene making a crucial block.
55'
CHANCE! Magnificent work from Alexis, who picks up the ball just outside the box and charges into the area. His shot is deflected into the side netting though and behind for a corner, which comes to nothing.
53'
DISALLOWED! Valencia lofts a cross in, Smalling is all over the defender and so is Lukaku when he heads into the goal. Two fouls in one incident, so United can't have any complaints.
51'
Newcastle still performing well and Benitez will continue to be happy with his side. A point would be tremendous to provide a boost but it wouldn't change the situation at the club.
49'
Big chance for Newcastle, as Shelvey feeds and inviting ball through to Ritchie. He bursts intot he box and goes to ground under a challenge from Jones but the flag had already been raised for offside.
47'
Manchester United come out the blocks flying, with Young finding space out wide and cutting a ball into Martial in the box. His first touch is heavy though and Newcastle's defence hooks the ball away.
45' +1
ONE minute of added-time at the end of the first half.
45'
Benitez continues to be furious with the officials, as every 50/50 call has gone against Newcastle- as well as that missed penalty incident. I'm sure they'll receive some choice words at half time.
KICK OFF! Back underway on Tyneside, where Manchester United now attack to the right.
43'
Just a few minutes to go until the break and Mourinho is sure to give his side an earful. They've been atrocious so far, although to Newcastle's credit the hosts have been very good.
41'
And they have every reason to be furious. It's just inside the box, Smalling gets nothing of the ball. How on earth can you not give anything at all!?
40'
Contentious inciedent as Smalling clumsily brings Gayle to ground and it looked like it could have been a penalty, right on the edge of the box on the far side. The referee instead gives nothing, infuriating the home supporters and Benitez.
38'
Newcastle will be very happy if the score stays like this until the break. They've been impressive so far against a Manchester United side who look to lack ideas.
36'
SAVE! Excellent stop from Dubravka! Matic plays a through ball to Martial, who gets the better of the defenders for pace and goes on-on-one with Dubravka. The Slovakian comes out triumphant though, with a strong save with his left boot.
35'
Sloppy play from Manchester United allows Newcastle to counter but they're struggling to move the ball into threatening areas.
33'
SAVE! Lukaku and Alexis link-up yet again, with the latter then feeding in Lingard. His effort is deflected but it still requires Dubravka to palm the ball behind down low.
32'
Shelvey and Diame have been superb in the opening half hour, making crucial tackles and key passes. They've been significantly superior to Pogba and Matic. If you were watching football for the first time, you'd struggle to identify which midfield pairing was the multi-million one.
30'
SAVE! Newcastle starting to move forward well again and Kenedy fires an effort from distance but it's straight at De Gea.
28'
Newcastle very compact without the ball and it's caused Mourinho's men problems so far. Not the most entertaining of matches so far though but that will suit Benitez.
26'
First piece of action for Dubravka, as a looping cross towards the far post sees Alexis rise above Yedlin to head at goal. It's an easy collect for the goalkeeper and Alexis looked to have pushed his marker anyway.
25'
It's just not quite clicking for Manchester United in the attacking third but they've responded well to the early Newcastle pressure, now controlling the tempo of the game.
23'
Quarter of the way through the match and Newcastle debutant Dubravka has had an easy game so far, with the Slovakian goalkeeper yet to be called upon.
21'
Alexis has been Manchester United's bright spark so far, getting involved in everything that the Red Devils are creating in an attacking sense.
19'
Manchester United have managed to settle into the game during the past five minutes but Mourinho will still expect a lot more from his side, who haven't linked-up well in the final third as of yet.
17'
Spetacular work by Alexis as he latches onto the end of Lukaku's long ball and the Chilean beats Yedlin, cutting a ball back to the striker but his shot is poor and fails to test Dubravka.
15'
First chance for United, as Alexis cuts the ball to Martial and the Frenchman bursts into the area. He tries a low, driven cross towards Lukaku but the Newcastle defence stands firm.
14'
Pogba isn't moving very well at all and he could have a problem, though he's insisted to the bench that he's ok for now. Could be a big decision for Manchester United to make early on in the match.
12'
Newcastle continue to attack with intent on every opportunity and Shelvey in particular look up for it. The Magpies already have had five shots at goal, though only one has been on target.
10'
Another push from Manchester United into the Newcastle half is quickly brought to and end by sloppy passing, with Benitez getting his side to put a lot of pressure on his opponents when they don't have the ball.
9'
The visitors yet to get a foothold in the match here, with Newcastle currently winning the midfield battle.
7'
Newcastle will be pleased with the start they've made as they've kept the ball well and restricted Manchester United's opportunities. Diame, who is in good form, has been superb in the middle of the park making his mark.
5'
SAVE! Early free-kick for Newcastle as Smalling commits a handball, giving the hosts an opportunity from just outside the area. Gayle's attempt is poor as it cannons back off the wall but Shelvey strikes the rebound fiercely, forcing De Gea to dave and palm the ball away.
4'
Purely accidental there but uncomfortable for Martial as he takes a finger to the eye. He's back on the field now though, which is a relief for United.
3'
Early break in play as Diame robs Martial of possession, catching him with a flailing arm that has led the Frenchman to require some treatment.
1'
KICK OFF! We're underway at St. James' Park, where Newcastle are searching for their first Premier League win at home in almost four months. The hosts get us starting, kicking to the right in the first half.
Good afternoon and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Premier League clash between Newcastle and Manchester United, a game that has increased in significance for the hosts with the way the matches have gone this weekend.
Rafael Benitez's side come into the game above the relegation zone on only goal difference and saw relegation rivals Swansea seal a crucial win yesterday, whilst Huddersfield are currently on-course to take three points off Bournemouth in today's early Premier League fixture. Unfortunately, they'll have the odds stacked against them today.
Remarkably, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has never tasted victory at St. James' Park but his side are firm favourites to secure a victory today, as the continue their quest to land a top-four finish. Currently with a six-point advantage over fifth-placed Chelsea, who play tomorrow, a win today would push them closer to their goals.
Newcastle XI: Martin Dubravka; DeAndre Yedlin, Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejuene, Paul Dummett; Matt Ritchie, Mohamed Diame, Jonjo Shelvey, Kenedy; Ayoze Perez; Dwight Gayle.
The match begins in around half an hour, so let's dig into the team news!
Manchester United XI: David De Gea; Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Ashley Young; Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba; Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez; Romelu Lukaku.
Newcastle subs: Karl Darlow, Isaac Hayden, Mikel Merino, Joselu, Christian Atsu, Javier Manquillo, Jacob Murphy.
Man United subs: Sergio Romero, Luke Shaw, Michael Carrick, Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay, Juan Mata, Marcos Rojo.
Benitez makes two changes to the side that drew with Crystal Palace last weekend, handing a debut to January recruit Dubravka between the sticks and restoring Lejeune to the heart of defence after his return from injury. Darlow drops to the bench, whilst Ciaran Clark doesn't make the squad due to a knee problem.
Mourinho also makes changes ahead for the tie, bringing in Pogba, Jones, Martial and Young. Rojo, Shaw, McTominay and Mata drop to the bench. Alexis, having scored his first goal for the Red Devils last weekend, continues on the left as part of an impressive attacking quartet.
The final whistle has just gone in West Yorkshire and it's a significant result for Newcastle, as Huddersfield's 4-1 victory sees the Magpies drop into the relegation zone.
HALF TIME! First 45 minutes are done at St. James' Park and Newcastle will certainly be the happier of the two sides, as they've limited the opportunities that Manchester United have created as well as looking good when they push into the final third. Mourinho will certainly want to see a lot more from his side.
Newcastle needed a response after falling into the relegation zone prior to kick-off and it could have been a lot better for the Magpies, had a penalty call gone their way. It's difficult to see why nothing was different but the Magpies cannot afford to focus on that frustration, as there will certainly be a response after the break.
Manchester United have lacked ideas so far, have been sloppy in possession and certainly don't look at their best. Despite this, they still enjoyed the best opportunity of the first half but Anthony Martial failed to continue his fine run in front of goal, being prevented one-on-one by a superb save from Newcastle debutant Martin Dubravka.
FULL TIME! Newcastle get a massive 1-0 victory to beat Manchester United for the first time in five years and a massive three points for the Magpies' battle to avoid relegation. Rafael Benitez's side were superb throughout and thoroughly deserve their win, against a Manchester United side who were very poor.
An eight-game winless run at St. James' Park comes to a close and Newcastle, having dropped into the relegation zone prior to kick off, fly up to 13th in the table. Martin Dubravka was excellent on his debut, whilst Jonjo Shelvey was superb in the middle of the park. From front to back, Newcastle were superb.
Manchester United, on the other hand, were pretty atrocious. Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic had a nightmare, losing the midfield battle against Shelvey and Mohamed Diame, whilst they found themselves prevented by Dubravka when they did create opportunities. It means Jose Mourinho's sorry record on Tyneside continues, as he's now failed to win any of his seven Premier League visits to St. James' Park.
