Penalty goal scored by S. Agüero for Manchester City!
GOAL! What a penalty from Agüero! He smashes it with the outside of his boot into the top right corner where no keeper could reach it! Pyatov was motionless on his line in any case. Can City snatch a draw?
90' +1
PENALTY! Toure and Aguero both have shots blocked inside the box, before Gabriel's feint sells his defender and he is brought down inside the box! the referee points to the spot with no hesitation.
90'
Diaz has done well since coming on, beating players and playing direct and positive. He's felled on the edge of the box, and wins his side a free-kick.
89'
D. Khocholava enters the game and replaces F. Ferreyra.
Shakhtar make their final change as Khotcholava comes on for Ferreyra.
86'
It's just not been Gabriel's night! Silva cuts the ball back into him from the right, but he makes a mess of the finish and it's high and wide.
84'
Gabriel goes too early, and is caught offside by the linesman. His shot hit the side-netting, in any case.
82'
V. Kovalenko enters the game and replaces Marlos.
Creator-in-chief Marlos is replaced for the final few minutes by Kovalenko.
81'
CHANCE! Out of nothing Toure shows his quality as he turns are curls the ball just wide of the top corner! City really needed that to go in to have any chance of salvaging something from this game. It's just not been their day.
79'
POST! How has that not gone in! Diaz does really well to get in behind his man, and squares the ball to Gabriel, who can only turn the ball onto the near post! The ball deflects back out to Diaz, but it comes off the youngster and goes out for a goal kick. Gabriel has had two presentably opportunities tonight, but he just hasn't been able to take them.
78'
Gabriel loses his marker as he spins away and into the box, but his lofted cross is caught well by Pyatov.
Minute
Description
76'
SAVE! Rakitskiy steps up and hammers a free-kick over the wall and on target, but Ederson read it well and made the save look easy.
74'
CHANCE! Taison cuts in from the left, having been fed by Bernard, and fires another effort wide oif the target. His shots have all been powerful, but he just hasn't been able to keep them on target tonight!
71'
Danilo goes in with a high boot on Azevedo, and is lucky to escape without a yellow card. That would have been his second, and he'd have received his marching orders!
70'
S. Agüero enters the game and replaces Fernandinho.
This is more like it. With 20 minutes left to go, Guardiola brings Aguero on. Can the proflic striker turn this game around? Fernandinho is the man to make way against his former club, meaning that City are now playing a 4-4-2/4-2-4 - depending on how high up the field the wide men push.
68'
Another great chance goes begging for Shakhtar! They have numbers over on City as the English side push men forward in desperation, but the final ball is lacking and City still have a ray of hope.
66'
Ismaily's replacement hardly covers himself in glory, wasted a fine crossing situation by putting the ball straight out of play and onto the roof of the City net.
64'
Márcio Azevedo enters the game and replaces Ismaily.
Meanwhile, Shakhtar are forced into a chance, with the impressive Ismaily unable to continue after feeling something in his leg. He is replaced by Azevedo
62'
Brahim Díaz enters the game and replaces L. Sané.
Well. If this change doesn't say that Guardiola is prioritising the Manchester derby, I don't know what does. Sane is replaced by youngster Diaz on the left wing. Despite being 2-0 down, the Spaniard will not be baited into risking his key players before arguably the most important game of their season.
60'
Shakhtar probe themselves, but Ederson deals well with a couple of crosses, before Ismaily stays down just inside the box.
59'
Sane and Gundogan exchange some neat passes on the edge of the box, before Sane can't quite bring the midifelder's dinked ball forward under control. He crosses first-time from the byline, and the swerve on the ball nearly catches Pyatov out, but it lands on the roof of the net!
57'
İ. Gündoğan gets yellow.
Gundogan goes into the book for City, and I don't think screaming in the face of the man with the cards helped his cause.
55'
CHANCE! City have a couple of chances in quick succession. First, Fernandinho can only nod a cross wide under pressure, before Silva's fizzing cross is held by Pytov.
54'
Y. Rakitskyi gets yellow.
Rakitskiy gets a deserved yellow card for a reckless lunge on Gabriel. He was never reaching the ball there.
52'
CHANCE! Taison once again narrowly misses the target! His tries to dink the ball into the middle, but Fernandinho is there to head away. It falls kindly for him, however, and he hits a swerving effort just over the top corner!
51'
City build an attack down the left-hand side, and Foden's cross into the middle looks promising, but is held by Pyatov.
49'
Marlos is crowded out by four and is fouled. City give away the free-kick, but it's much better in terms of pressing together and cutting off the supply line to the forwards.
48'
Shakhtar race up the other end, looking for a third. Ismaily takes a one-two in his stride and sprints down the left, but his cross is too high and nobody can get on the end of it!
47'
Silva almost gets a chance in the box as Sane crosses in from the left, but Shakhtar scramble to clear the ball away! This is much more like the City we're used to seeing.
46'
Manchester City kick off the second half as they try and find a way back into the game.
SAVE! And they show their intent early on! Sane pokes a cross towards goal and Pyatov does very well to get across and cling onto the first-time effort.
45'
CHANCE! Shakhtar are in again! Ferreyra just slips at the vital moment, and snatches at his shot, which is low and straight, and easy for Ederson to hold. He'll be grateful for that.
43'
CHANCE! Taison glides past several City players after some wonderful interplay on the edge of the box, and curls a fantastic, swerving effort just over Ederson's corssbar. I'm not sure the keeper would have saved that - there was some real power in that shot!
42'
CHANCE! City should be right back in this! Gabriel is sent racing clear, and he's one-on-one with the keeper, but he tries to be a little too clever and cut back across him instead of going round, and the striker loses the ball. That really should have been 2-1!
40'
CHANCE! Ismaily stretches for a cross, and it's floated to the back stick for Fred to smash a volley into the body of Mangala. He appeals for handball, but there was no chance he was getting that. It's just a corner, which sees the ball eventually blazed over from the edge of the box.
39'
CHANCE! Gundogan hammers the ball into the body of a Shakhtar defender, before Gabriel's fizzed low cross is caught well by Pyatov. City are desperately searching for a goal to get them back into this, but could it leave them exposed?
37'
The ball is floated to the left side of the box, where Foden attempts an ambitious volley. However, he dones't make the right connection with the ball, and Shakhtar clear. Still, it's better from City.
36'
CHANCE! Sane weaves some magic on the left flank and lays off Foden just inside the box, but the youngster snatches at the opportunity and lifts the ball over the bar. City were previously appealing for a penalty following a robust challenge on Danilo inside the box, but the referee gives nothing.
32'
Ismaily has scored a goal for Shakhtar Donetsk! Assist by Marlos.
Marlos deserves a lot of credit for the goal - his pass was placed perfectly into the area behind the full-back and just out of the goalkeeper's reach, causing havoc and giving Ismaily the simple task of taking a touch and rolling the ball home.
GOAL! Shakhtar look in danger of running away with it in these early stages! They squandered a couple of good oppotunities to double their advantage, but they make no mistake this time! Marlos plays a wonderful ball over the top to release Ismaily in behind in the channel. Ederson rushes out of his box, but gets nothing, and the left-back can roll the ball into an empty net! It's 2-0 to Shakhtar!
31'
City look a little lost. When they get the ball, they seem rushed, and when they lose it, there's no defensive organisation from the midfield. Fernandinho is dropping all the way back in-between the two centre-halves, while Toure and Gundogan are pushing up and are getting caught out.
29'
CHANCE! Shakhtar are in the ascendancy! It's a three-on -two situation in favour of Shakhtar, but Bernard's low shot is saved smartly by Ederson and hacked away. Moments later, the City defence scramble to defend against another incisive attack and manage to cut out Bernard's square ball!
26'
Bernard has scored a goal for Shakhtar Donetsk! Assist by Marlos.
Marlos initally looked to have made the wrong decision when he chose to lay the ball off rather than shooting, but his team-mate came up with a peach of a strike to put the hosts one goal up!
GOAL! What a strike!! Marlos jinks past several sky blue shirts in midfield and, instead of shooting from the edge of the box, lays it off to Bernard. The little Brazilian's first touch looked to have killed the attack's momentum, but he cuts back in onto his favoured right foot and curls and beautiful strike right into the top corner, giving Ederson no chance! Fantastic goal, and it's 1-0 Shakhtar!
24'
Another incisive Shakhtar attack comes close, but Mangala blocks his man off as he looked to burst into the box! Nothing is given though, and City escape again.
22'
Danilo gets yellow.
Danilo gets a yellow card as he goes in strongly again. It's one foul too many from the Brazilian, and he's now got more than two-thirds of the game to play on a booking.
21'
CHANCE! Taison gets the ball on the right side of the box as Shakhtar break away, and cuts inside before curling one at goal with his left foot. There's plenty of power in the shot, but it's a little too central and Ederson can hold at the second attempt. Still, the hosts have looked the most threatening so far.
19'
Fernandinho showcases the aggression and competitive nature of the game with a robust challenge in midfield. He gets away without a card, however, and it's the right decision.
15'
Shakhtar are showing a great deal of aggression and thrust as they search for a goal. They can sense that this weakened City team - particualrly with youth in their back-line - could be there for the taking, and neither of these two are the sort of side to sit back and take a 0-0.
13'
Foden is in fact playing at left-back tonight, while Fernandinho plays as the holding midfielder between Toure and Gundogan.
12'
Bernard twists and turns well to get away from Silva, before being taken out unceremoniously by Danilo as he looked to break away.
10'
Foden drives down the left as City look to respond, but he's just unable to convert it into a clear-cut chance and the ball runs out for a goal-kick. Shakhtar ping the ball up the other end in an attempt to catch their opponents out, but it's over-hit and runs through to Ederson.
7'
CHANCE! Shakhtar break away down the left and get into the box, but a combination of blind luck and City's defence see the hosts' attempt at goal deflected away off of Fernandinho!
4'
City see a lot of the ball early on, as expected, but Shakhtar have pace and direct running in their side and look threatening on the break.
1'
And we're off! Shakhtar Donetsk kick us off at the start of the first half.
Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Champions League group stage fixture between Shakhtar Donetsk and Manchester City at the Metalist Stadium.
The line-ups are out and we'll begin with the home side.
Manchester City XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Fernandinho, Mangala, Adarabioyo, Danilo; Toure, Foden, Gundogan; Sane, Gabriel, Silva
Manchester City will look to become just the seventh side to maintain a 100% record in the group stages of the Champions League - the last side to do so were Real Madrid in 2014/15, who were knocked out in the semi-finals by eventual runners-up Juventus.
Manchester City substitutes: Bravo, Walker, Sterling, Aguero, Otamendi, Duhaney, Diaz
This is just the second competitive encounter between these two sides, after the reverse fixture in September - 2-0 win for City at the Etihad.
City have already secured top spot, but Shakhtar still require a point to ensure their qualification to the knockout stages. If Napoli fail to beat Feyenoord, however, then the Ukrainian side will progress regardless of the night's result.
The Spaniard's record from his previous 99 games is excellent, losing just 15 of those fixtures (W61 D23), and lifting the trophy on two occasions with Barcelona (2009, 2011).
The game may be a dead rubber for the visitors in terms of qualification, but Pep Guardiola will be looking to mark his 100th Champions League game as a manager with a win. He becomes the sixth man to reach that landmark after Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Carlo Ancelotti, Jose Mourinho and Mircea Lucescu.
This is Manchester City's seventh consecutive season in the Champions League. They have made it past the round of 16 only once (in 2015/16) when they reached the semi-finals and were knocked out by Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Shakhtar Donetsk have reached the knockout stages in three of their last six Champions League campaigns. Their best run to-date came in the 2010/11 season, making the quarter-finals before being dismantled 6-1 on aggregate by eventual champions Barcelona.
Expect goals in today's game, as Shakhtar have won their two home games in the Champions League so far this season, scoring twice in each of their last four outings on home soil, while City have scored 13 in the competition - including a competition-high five from corners so far.
Guardiola makes seven changes as he rotates his side heavily with the Manchester derby in mind and top spot already secured. De Bruyne is suspended, while David Silva has been left behind with an unspecified injury. Kyle Walker, Nicolas Otamendi, Raheem Sterling, and Sergio Aguero all drop to the bench, while Fabian Delph is left out altogether. In come Yaya Toure, Ilkay Gundogan, Fernandinho, Bernardo SIlva and Gabriel Jesus, along with starts for youngsters Phil Foden and Tosin Adarabioyo.
Fernandinho returns to face his former club for just the second time since leaving Shakhtar Donetsk for Manchester City in the summer of 2013, having spent eight fruitful years in Ukraine.
And there goes the half-time whistle! Shakhtar looked at it from the off, and they have converted their dominance into a 2-0 lead. Bernard curled a superb strike into the top corner to open the scoring, before Marlos - who set up the opener - got his second assist for a lovely ball over the top for Ismaily, who rounded a stranded Ederson and rolled the ball into an empty net. City - despite having the lion's share of possession - struggled to assert themselves on the game, and Gabriel spurned their best chance of the half as he failed to round Pyatov and get his side back in the game at 2-0 down. Shakhtar are two goals ahead at the break, but Guardiola will certainly look to motivate a repsonse from his team in the second period of his 100th Champions League game as a manager.
It seems not! Shakhtar Donestk clinch second spot with a 2-1 win, and become the first side to beat Pep Guardiola's Manchester City this season! Bernard opened the scoring with a fantastic strike, before Ismaily rolled the ball into an empty net to double their advantage. Gabriel spurned several good chances for the visitors, and hit the post late on, before winning a stoppage-time penalty that Aguero duly blasted home. but it was too little, too late as the hosts held out to make it an unhappy 100th Champions League game for Guardiola. However, if City win the upcoming Manchester derby, you suspect he will feel more than vindicated in resting several of his big stars in tonight's game. City still finish top of their group, while Napoli drop into the Europa League with a disappointing 2-1 loss against Feyenoord. It finishes 2-1 to Shakhtar Donetsk here!
