Juventus get us under way, kicking right to left.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Serie A game between Juventus and Chievo at the Allianz Stadium.
Juventus top the table on goal difference after winning their opening two games of the season and they will be largely expected to make it three wins from three today. Juventus have lost only once in their previous 20 meetings with today’s opponents, a 1-0 defeat in 2009.
Giorgio Chiellini is expected to miss the game with a minor calf injury he picked up on international duty, as is Sami Khedira and Claudio Marchisio. Massimiliano Allegri will be expected to rotate a few players with the midweek Champion’s League tie against Barcelona to think about.
Chievo have made a steady start to their Serie A campaign, beating Udinese 2-1 in their opening fixture before being narrowly defeated at the hands of Lazio by the same score line. They face a tough task to pick up points against the current Serie A champions but Rolando Maran’s side are known to be a tough nut to crack.
Italian forward Riccardo Meggiorini, Samuel Bastien and Emanuel Vignato are out with injuries but deadline day signings Nenad Tomovic and Mariusz Stepinski make the squad.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
Juventus XI (4-3-3): Szczesny; Lichtsteiner, Benatia, Rugani, Asamoah; Matuidi, Pjanic, Sturaro; Douglas Costa, Higuain, Mandzukic.
For Chievo, deadline day signings Tomovic and Stepinski only make the bench for their new club as manager Rolando Maran sticks with the same starting line-up that were narrowly beaten by Lazio last time out.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
There are six changes to the side that beat Genoa 4-2 prior to the international break for Juventus. Chiellini and Khedira are missing through injury as expected, making way for Medhi Benatia and Blaise Matuidi. Gianluigi Buffon is replaced by Wojciech Szczesny in goal, Alex Sandro makes way for Kwadwo Asamoah and Juan Cuadrado and Paulo Dybala are replaced by Stefano Sturaro and Douglas Costa.
HALF TIME: JUVENTUS 1-0 CHIEVO
An exciting both half as both teams played with intensity and purpose from the start. Chievo gave as good as they got as they created a few good chances of their own and defended well for the majority of the half. Juventus struggled to create any real clear-cut opportunities against their defiant visitors and go in at the break courtesy of an own-goal by Perparim Hetemaj.
Both teams are coming back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half.
FULL TIME: JUVENTUS 3-0 CHIEVO
Chievo started the second half brightly and took control of the game, but Juventus held firm until the introduction of Dybala. The young Argentinian forward helped to setup Higuain's second of the night to kick start his impressive performance, before rounding it off with a brilliantly taken goal after being played into the box by Bernardesrchi. Chievo held on for as long as they could but in the end, Juventus's impressive firepower and strong bench was too much for them.
