Germany beat Nigeria 2-0 to lift the trophy

(GSM) - Germany have won the Under-20 Women's World Cup, beating Nigeria 2-0 to lift the trophy in Bielefeld.

The final had been under way eight minutes when Alexandra Popp put hosts Germany in the lead with a shot into the far corner.

While Nigeria did try to find the equaliser in the second half, Germany were in fact closer to scoring a second and that is exactly what happened in the 92nd minute as Kim Kulig headed past keeper Jonathan for 2-0.

The more than 24,000 spectators watched Germany lift the trophy for the second time after having done so before in 2004. The Germans succeed 2008 champions USA.

In the match for third place, played earlier on Sunday, Korea Republic beat Colombia 1-0.
