UEFA Women's Championship 2009

Following their opening match victory on Sunday, UEFA Women's Championships hosts Finland also won their second, beating the Netherlands 2-1 in Helsinki.

The Dutch also won their first match but now couldn't prevent that Finland took an early lead. Only seven minutes had been played at the Olympic Stadium when Laura Österberg headed home from a Petra Vaelma cross for 1-0.

But things balanced out on 25 minutes as Kirsten van de Ven beat a defender before firing past keeper Korpela.

No more goals were scored in the first half, but the Finnish did net the decider in the 69th minute. Maija Saari sent in a cross from the left and Österberg against used her head to score her second of the night.

With six points from two games, Finland are practically through to the next round. The Netherlands and Denmark share second place and face a crucial group clash on Saturday.
