News June 21, 2008 23:53

Russia coach Guus Hiddink got the result he wanted to become a traitor in his native Holland after his team´s 3-1 quarter-final win after extra-time dumped the Dutch out of Euro 2008.

I am very sad but Russia played better than us!! good luck on semifinal!

ajax72 June 22, 2008 00:47

The dutch crumbled when they had to play against a strong, attacking team. Nothing like the hapless 'group of death' teams. They turned out to be the proverbial colossus with clay feet. Still I sympathize with them and I'm sure they'll do much better in 2010.

Tontodonati June 22, 2008 01:25

Guus Hidding is not a traitor. He is a mercenary, and a good one at that! Had the Dutch used his services again, they would have done much better. Perhaps even winning this European Championship. Of course, not to take anything away from Marco Van Basten!

dudishmon June 22, 2008 01:29

woah,,,i cant believe what just happened!!!!!

dudishmon June 22, 2008 01:31

if the dutch had the same exact players on the pitch as when they beat italy and france, these guys probly would have went to the semis.

RGPII1 June 22, 2008 01:37

Didn't Guus get in some tax trouble in Holland? Curious...but the Dutch still gave us some brilliant football alright, one critic said the last team Holland would have wanted to meet was Russia. He said that, not me, but maybe that is so.

dudishmon June 22, 2008 01:38

this is the craziest unbeleiveable euro champ. cup ever!!!weird!!!
first netherlands beats italy 3-0
then netherlands beats france 4-1
nest croatia beats germany
then switzerland beat portugal 2-0
also turkey beats croatia
and now russia beats netherlands 3-1
........whats the next crazy thing russia and turkey in the finals?????lol, lol, lol

dudishmon June 22, 2008 01:40

maby van basten thought his team would easily beat russia so he was saving some good players for the semis but now it over for them so to little to late for marco and holland

Tontodonati June 22, 2008 01:56

Ok guys, at the cost of being wrong again, this is my infallible prediction: Final game Germany-Italy. My World Cup Champions will win this one. But don't forget that I've been wrong many times before!

ajax72 June 22, 2008 02:08

dudishmon I second your prediction for the final game. And mind you this is a scientific one based on the infallible prognosis of our chief oracle here - Tontodonati. If he says the final is Germany-Italy it means it'll be no doubt Turkey-Russia. There's no way we can fail inthis.

bontekoe June 22, 2008 02:09

Van Basten accepts defeat so gracefully--so easily. Perhaps he should look a little more closely at his own contribution to the defeat. His second and third substitutions made little, if any, sense. The team needed Robben's pace and technical ability, as well as Huntelaar's youthful energy and touch around the net. (Van Nistelrooy got the tying goal, true, but his weary legs were evident in much of the match.) What on earth did substituting Afellay for Engelaar bring them?

soccerwinner June 22, 2008 02:35

Wow! I'm still can't believe Holland lost this match.

ajax72 June 22, 2008 02:44

At a closer look this has all the ingredients of a fix. I had a feeling of a deja-vu and it was '98 WC final France - Brazil. The same unexplicable mental absence from the pitch, total lack of spirit and most amazing of all complete physical exhaustion from players that missed the previous game. On top of this the baffling to say the least substitutions made by MvB. In the tensest moment of the game, desperately seeking for a goal, instead of Huntelaar, Robben or even Venegoor he let in an inexperienced youngster. Or is this all too paranoic? I don't know.

Tontodonati June 22, 2008 02:57

Ajax72 and Dudishmon, I'm not the chief oracle but the classic oracle of Delphi in Phocis situated in central ancient Greece. The only difference is that I predict the wrong score in order to be right. Does that make any sense to you? I've been right all along by being wrong, therefore, the finals will be played between Turkey and Russia, meaning Italy - Germany! The final score? Germany 4 Italy 1. Do you get the idea of which team is going to win?

treze17 June 22, 2008 03:26

ДАААААААААААААА!!!!!! РОССССССССССИИИИИИИИЯЯЯЯЯЯЯЯЯЯ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ajax72 June 22, 2008 04:55

Yes and you said it: Germany. LOL.

ajax72 June 22, 2008 04:57

Yes and you said it: Germany. LOL. For once in your life your guess will be correct.

BesTalentScout June 22, 2008 06:26

like i've said, Holland peaked too soon............and revealed all their strengths and weaknesses............

so far all the semi-finalists are the ones that are not so impressive in the group stages............

nelsonm2110 June 22, 2008 11:48

Arshevin and Pavlyuchenko would have to be one of the best attacking partnerships at the tournament at the moment.
