Quick Report: United States 2-1 Canada

15 August 2008 16:25

SHANGHAI (SW) - The United States survived their quarter final match with Canada thanks to a goal in extra time after a match that needed to be suspended due to bad weather.

Angela Hucles put the Americans in the lead after just twelve minutes but Canada striker Christine Sinclair levelled the score on the half hour mark.

The match then had to be suspended temporarily as result of a heavy thunderstorm.

No goals were scored in the second half after the match had been resumed, and extra time was needed to decide who would face Japan or China in the semi finals.

The winning goal came from 25-year-old Natasha Kai in the 101st minute. Canada failed to find a second equaliser and their tournament came to an end in Shanghai.
