LONDON (AFP) - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has left the English Premier League club, the BBC and other British media reported early Thursday.

There was no immediate confirmation of the reports from the club, but Sky Sports News quoted an un-named senior player as confirming that the Portuguese manager had sent text messages to members of his squad informing them of his decision to leave.

If confirmed, Mourinho's departure will send shock-waves through English football.

The Portuguese manager has transformed the nation's football landscape since taking over at Stamford Bridge in June 2004, winning two Premier League titles in his first two years in charge and the FA Cup last season.

But his relationship with Chelsea's owner Roman Abramovich has always been fraught and it now seems that a disappointing 1-1 Champions League draw with Norwegian side Rosenberg on Tuesday was his last in charge.
