HELSINKI, Sep 13 (SW) – HJK Helsinki lost their first match for the UEFA Women’s Cup second round 1-2 at home against Icelandic Breidablik. It is the second year in a row that a Finnish outfit lost against an Icelandic team. last year United Pietarsaari lost to Valur Reykjavik. The winning goal of Breidablik was scored in injury time.

The first half the two teams were pretty equal, with a slight advantage for HJK. Breidablik were the stronger and faster team, while HJK were technical more accommodated. Both teams had good changes in the first half, Sanna Talonen (HJK) even came one on one with the Breidablik keeper in the 40th minute, but the goalie stood firm.

HJK had the better start in the second half. The sudden 0-1 came as a big surprise, as shot from twenty metres from Olina Gudbjorg Vidarsdottir slowly sailed into the goal. Goalkeeper Noora Matikainen looked as if she did not expect the ball to go in directly. After the 0-1 HJK started pressing, which resulted in the 1-1 by Leena Puranen twenty minutes from time. A long ball by Evelina Sarapaa reached Puranen who calmly sended the ball past goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir.

Both clubs had good chances after this. The blow for HJK came three minutes in injury time when Matikainen brought the ball in play badly. A player of Breidablik intercepted the ball and opened a cross from the right side to the far post. The ball looked to be going over the backline, but was chipped in by Greta Mjoll Samuelsdottir. The ball rolled slowly in the net.

The game in Helsinki was poorly attended, a mere 150 people visited the game. The easy win (5-0) of FFC Frankfurt against Universitet Vitebsk was watched by 50 people.
