SOFIEMYR, Sep 12 (SW) – Norwegian national champions Kolbotn IL won their UEFA Women’s Cup match relatively easy with 4-2 against Spanish champions Espanyol. Three goals from a fast break proved to be too much for the women from Barcelona.
Kolbotn coach Aksel Bergo told Soccerway that he thought the win from the team from the Oslo suburbs was solid and deserved, even when the team got a bit nervous when Espanyol got one goal back to make it 3-1. The first goal of Ingrid Schjelderup was scored on a Tonje Hansen cross after a quick break. Just before half-time 99-capped Norwegian international Solveig Gulbrandsen scored the second goal. After the break Tonje Hansen scored, again from counter, assisted by Solveig Gulbrandsen. The women marched up to the Espanyol box, and won the two-to-one situation. A free kick from 25 metres brought some of the tension back in the game. Kolbotn goalkeeper Beate Bye saw the ball going in between her legs. But seven minutes later all Spanish hopes were dashed when Tonje Hansen came from her own half to score the 4-1. A few minutes from time Marta Cubi Tudo took another goal back for Espanyol, but only for the records. It was a good start for Kolbotn on home soil. Earlier today Swedish champions Umea IK won their match against Ukrainian side Legend Chernigiv with 2-0. The game between the two Scandinavian powerhouses (Umea and Kolbotn) will be played on September 17th. Kolbotn IL – Espanyol 4-2 (2-1) Attendance: Unknown Goals: 20. Ingrid Schjelderup 1-0, 42.
