ESPOO, Oct 8 (SW) – FC Honka is the surprise winner of the Finnish championship after a 1-0 win against SC Raisio, leaving top teams HJK Helsinki and FC United Pietarsaari behind. Most of the FC Honka players never won a title.

In a very difficult game, FC Honka never reached their normal level. Nerves and a defensive opponent kept the game scoreless for a long time. The first half FC Honka only got some small changes, with SC Raisio gambling on a counter attack, with just one attacking player.

In the second half the women from Espoo lost a bit of the nerves and the quality of the game improved. Also substitutions brought some extra spirit. In the 68th minute the liberating goals was scored. A quick throw-in ended at Anna Westerlund who passed the ball into the penalty area. Linda Lindqvist picked the ball up, turned and shot at goal from 16 metres. The ball went in on the right hand of the keeper.

Coach Marko Saloranta stated to Soccerway that only three players of the team ever won the Finnish title.”SC Raisio was a strong opponent today, Anna Westerlund who assisted the goal played for SC Raisio last year and I have coached them for four year before FC Honka. So the win had some extra for me.”
