OSLO, Oct 7 (SW) – Trondheims Orn extends their lead in the Norwegian Toppserien to five points after winning the battle against number two Roa.
Røa started best in the first half with two chances during the first eight minutes. They also had a few chances with Guro Knutsen. Trondheims-Orn improved their play towards the end of the first half, but without producing any major chances. Half time result was 0-0.
Trondheims-Orn started very good in the second half, with two long-distance shots from Linn Nyronning. The first hit the post, while the second was saved by the Roa goalkeeper, Silje Vesterbekkmo. The Trondheims-Orn players seem to have been instructed to shoot more during the break. The decisive goal halfway the second half, came after a long-distance shot from Trine Stensaas. The ball hit the post, and Kristin Lie came in on the rebound and heads the ball into the goal.
Roa has several chances to equalize towards the end of the game, but was unable to score. This means that Trondheims-Orn for all practical purposes has won the league with a five point advantage and three games left. Orn have to win the next two matches versus Amazon and Liungen (both at the lower half of the table) to secure the championship. Roa has dropped to third place on the table behind Kolbotn on goal difference.
