MUNICH, May 8 (SW) - Germany international Lukas Podolksi is set to join German champions Bayern Munich this summer.

The 20-year-old FC Cologne striker, whose nine goals did not stop the northern club from immediately returning to the second division, will join a Bayern strike force which includes Roy Makaay (16 goals this season) and Claudio Pizzaro (10 goals). Nonetheless, Podolski is confident he will earn playing time.

"I'm convinced that I made the right decision. I don't have any fear I won't play," Podolski said.

It is not yet clear when Podolski will join the German champions, though Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness believes the move can be completed by July.

"We pretty much have a deal with Lukas Podolski's management. If he doesn't come now, he'll come in a year. We'll talk to Cologne in the hope of having him in Munich by July 1,” Hoeness said.

Podolski, who is expected to play an important role for the German squad at this summer’s World Cup finals, scored 10 goals two years ago, setting a Bundesliga record for an 18-year-old.

The young striker had also been pursued by Hamburger SV and Werder Bremen.
