Campbell: Fenerbahçe move very likely

LONDON, June 8 (SW) - England and Arsenal central defender Sol Campbell is keen to join Turkish club Fenerbahçe, according to reports in the Turkish press.
“The probability of me joining Fenerbahçe is very high," he is quoted as saying in Vatan newspaper. "Not because they've offered me a lot of money, but because they have challenged me. Everything will be clearer after the World Cup.” The 31-year-old Campbell, who scored Arsenal’s lone goal in the 2-1 UEFA Champions League final loss to Barcelona, has three years remaining on a contract he signed just last year, but his stock has dropped after a disappointing season marred by injuries and off-field problems. "It is obvious that they are considering me seriously. They made me a good and full offer. We are progressing step-by-step. I will give my decision after the World Cup,” Campbell added. "But, the probability of me joining Fenerbahçe is bigger than that of refusing the offer. "I know that Fenerbahce is the club which has the best conditions in Turkey. Fenerbahce is a club with very high ambitions and has interesting potential. "After the stories in Turkey were first written about me, all my Turkish friends in London spoke to me. I got information on Fenerbahçe and Istanbul from them. "Since I am at the World Cup, I am still thinking. I didn't sign any official document yet. "I believe Fenerbahçe are also still thinking. I will give my final decision after the World Cup.” Fenerbahçe finished second in Turkey this last season, losing out on the championship on the final match day, but the Istanbul club has nonetheless qualified for the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round. |
