DORTMUND, Jun 13 (SW) - Germany will be aiming to practically secure a spot in the next round in their second group match, but Poland need a win to keep the round of sixteen in sight.

The two face each other at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, which has already been the host of the match between Trinidad & Tobago and Sweden.

Germany's biggest absence for the opening match was Michael Ballack, but the playmaker is back and will be directing things in midfield.

Lehmann's participation was initially not certain after suffering a small injury against Costa Rica, but the Arsenal goalie is fit and keeps Kahn away from the starting line-up for another match.

Poland do have an injury worry as Kamil Kosowski may not play due to a strained hamstring, suffered against Ecuador.

Facts:

Germany have one bad series of matches to end, as the three-times World Champions have not defeated a European opponent in a major tournament since beating the Czechs in the final of Euro 1996.

In 2002, Poland lost their first two matches and had no chance of qualifying for the next round when they began their third. Just like this year, their first match was lost 2-0 - then by South Korea.

The Poles can only hope this streak won't continue, as their second match in 2002 meant a 4-0 defeat by Portugal.

Head to head:

In their 14 previous meetings, Germany won ten times and the teams drew four times. Poland have yet to beat their neighbours.

Probable line-ups:

Germany: Lehmann, Friedrich, Metzelder, Mertesacker, Lahm, Schneider, Frings, Ballack, Schweinsteiger, Podolski, Klose.

Poland: Boruc, Bak, Jop, Zewlakow, Baszczynski, Krzynowek, Jelen, Szymkowiak, Sobolewski, Smolarek, Zurawski.

Location: Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund

Time: 21:00 (9:00pm) CET

Referee: Luis Medina Cantalejo (ESP)
