Germany: Hamburger SV beaten by Nurnberg

NURNBERG, Jan 28 (SW) - Hamburger SV crashed to a 2-1 defeat at Nurnberg, while Hertha and Stuttgart dropped points in their home matches against Hannover and Duisburg respectively.
Nurnberg - Hamburger SV 2-1 An own goal from Andreas Wolf put Hamburg in the lead after 65 minutes, but Ivan Saenko made up for his teammate's mistake only two minutes later. A winning goal came from Stefan Kiessling in the 73rd minute. Hertha BSC - Hannover 96 1-1 Hannover opened the score through Cristoph Dabrowski in the 13th minute, but went down to ten when Altin Lala was sent off in the 45th. Hertha eventually took advantage, as Dick van Burik levelled in stoppage time. VfB Stuttgart - Duisburg 0-1 One goal was enough for Duisburg to earn three points at Stuttgart. The decision came from Marco Caligiuri in the 43rd minute. Borussia Dortmund - VfL Wolfsburg 3-2 Wolfsburg took the lead with a goal from Mike Hanke in the 13th minute, but an own goal from Stefan Schoor levelled the score in the 25th. Ebi Smolarek scored for 2-1 in the 31st minute, and Salvatore Gambino added a third in the 67th. Klimowicz got one back for the guests in the 71st minute. Bayer Leverkusen - Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 A goal from Ioannis Amanatidis put Frankfurt ahead in the 41st minute, but things were turned around by Paul Freier in the 66th minute and Hans-Jorg Butt with a penalty in the 74th. Mainz - Cologne 4-2 Mainz needed only five minutes to open the score through Michael Thurk, but Lukas Podolski scored from a penalty to level the score in the 32nd. Matthias Scherz went on to score for 1-2, but Thurk netted another to equalize in the 55th. Mainz added two more goals to win the match, through Mohamed Zidan in the 61st minute and Benjamin Auer in the 87th. |
