Umea IK win season opener against Malmo FF
UMEA, Apr 18 (SW) – Swedish champions Umea IK have won their Damallsvenskan opening game against last years number two Malmo FF with 2-0. Goals from Malin Mostrom and Lise Klaveness gave the important points to the home side. Djurgardens won their game easily with 3-0. And promoted Balinge opened with a 0-1 away win at FC Goteborg.
Umea IK were clearly the better team when they beat Malmö FF 2-0 on Gammliavallen. Marta made a cross to Malin Moström who scored 1-0 in first half and Lise Klaveness, who came from Asker in Norway, scored in extra time on a cross from Marta. Malmö still managed to create dangerous situation utilising Asthildur Helgadottir as a target player, and the Umeå defense was lucky to clear those situations.
Djurgarden expectedly won the game against Sunnana SK. Sunnana were in some cases winning more 1 to 1 situations on the field during the first half but the incredibly lousy passing squandered most opportunities. If a Sunnana player managed to break free, the solid DIF defense had little trouble dismantling the situation. Only in extra time did Sunnana manage something resembling a decent scoring opportunity, but the resulting corner kick was wasted.
Managed to get opportunities DIF were solid and dominating like a top team. Hanna Marklund admitted to the media that the first two goals were way too easy. As the final whistle blew on Kristinebergs IP in front of 626 spectators the result was 3-0. The 4000 capacity arena which is the new home for Djurgården/Älvsjö is cosy enough and the small crowd was noisy enough to give the proceedings a fitting backdrop, although DIF are aiming for 1000 spectators per match.
