SUNDERLAND, Aug 11 (SW) – Sunderland have completed their 10th signing of the summer after snapping up Sheffield United’s top scorer from last year, Andy Gray, for an initial fee of £750,000.

Gray has already started his goal scoring account for this season, after bagging a penalty in United’ 4-1 win over Leicester last weekend. However, the striker, who scored 15 goals for the Blades last year, insisted a move to the Premiership was too good to turn down.

Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy said: "Andy will add experience and know-how to our strike-force.”

"He'll compliment our existing strikers and at 27 he's in his prime. His style of play gives us another option."

Although the initial fee for the 27-year-old is set at £750,000, the fee could rise to £1.1million depending upon appearances. The Black Cats have stated that he is likely to feature in their first league game of the new campaign on Saturday, which will see Charlton visit the Stadium of Light.

Gray joins the ever-growing list of players to join last year’s Championship winners, with players such as Jon Stead, Kelvin Davis, Tommy Miller, Nyron Nosworthy, Alan Stubbs, and on-loan Anthony Le Tallec.all making their way to the North East.
