Mertens makes a tired challenge as he works hard to keep it at 4-2, and gets a yellow for his troubles.
Koulibaly earns himself a very late yellow, but it won't affect anything now.
90' +2
R. Sterling has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by K. De Bruyne.
De Bruyne was the orchestrator of that goal, threading Sterling in really well with a perfectly-weighted pass out to him on the right.
GOAL! And now it is four! De Bruyne brings it up the pitch and is patient, waiting for the perfect opportunity, before finding Sterling with a lovely pass, and the Englishman slides it under Reina to settle the contest! It's 4-2 to City!
90' +1
N. Otamendi gets yellow.
CHANCE! Bernardo Silva has another chance to make it four for City! David Silva glides down the left and places the ball into the middle, where Bernardo Silva hits it first-time again with his right foot, but it's just over.
Otamendi gets a yellow as he makes a tired, cynical challenge.
90'
Gabriel Jesus enters the game and replaces L. Sané.
Sané gets a well deserved break as he is replaced for the last few minutes by Jesus.
88'
Napoli's forward players are working tirelessly to get back into this game. Insigne has showed hard work to go with all his talent, depicted by a sensational flick earlier in the half. He fouls David Silva as he was put in after great work from Bernardo Silva, getting back well despite his tired legs.
86'
CHANCE! Sane's blistering pace takes him past tired legs on the left, and he squares for Bernardo Silva, who hits it first-time on his left, but Reina gets down low to make a good save.
85'
Ounas shows good feet to get past his man on the right, but his cross is poor and easily cleared.
84'
City are knockng it about in a very confident, assured manner, as they hold onto the ball in these closing stages.
82'
A. Ounas enters the game and replaces Jorginho.
Jorginho is replaced by Ounas in Napoli's final change of the night.
81'
De Bruyne almost latches onto a loose ball from Sane's deflected cross, but Koulibaly shields it well and Reina gathers.
Minute
Description
80'
CHANCE! De Bruyne and David Silva stand around the ball, but it's Sane who strikes it, and it's just over the bar. It was a powerful one, but not quite enough dip.
79'
Fernandinho's bursting run from midfield sees him win a free-kick just outside the box. One more goal for City would surely settle the contest.
78'
Bernardo Silva has taken up a false-nine role, supported by De Bruyne through the middle.
76'
Bernardo Silva enters the game and replaces S. Agüero.
Record-breaking Agüero comes off for Bernardo Silva, as City look to just hold onto the ball for the remainder of the game.
75'
M. Rog enters the game and replaces Allan.
City are showing good maturity to keep the ball and not over-commit in possession. They're still looking to attack, but they're being more measured about their approach.
Rog replaces Allan in midfield as Napoli look to chase the game.
71'
David Silva enters the game and replaces İ. Gündoğan.
Gündoğan is replaced by David Silva in midfield as Guardiola manages the German's comeback in stages. The little Spaniard will help his side retain the ball well, too, as they look to see this game out.
69'
S. Agüero has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by L. Sané.
CHANCE! Callejon had a golden, golden chance there! Mertens slips him through, the flag stays down, and Callejon, all on his own, can only fire at Ederson, who tips it over!
GOAL! AGUERO BREAKS THE RECORD! He's put City 3-2 up as well! They break from Napoli's corner and Sane finds Aguero, who makes no mistake to score his 178th goal for the club and become the record scorer and give his side the lead! It was a lovely finish, curled into the bottom corner past Reina. He doesn't miss those!
Sané's pace dragged City up the pitch, and he showed good awareness to find Aguero for his record-breaking goal!
67'
A sustained spell of City pressure sees Aguero found on the penalty spot in behidn the defence, but he's strayed just offside.
64'
The referee is getting an earful from both teams. Mertens is furious as the offside flag is raised against him when he looked set to burst clear. Moments earlier, Sterling was bellowing for a penalty as he claimed for handball against Hysaj from his cross, but it would have been very harsh.
62'
Penalty goal scored by Jorginho for Napoli!
GOAL! Jorginho puts it away very, very coolly! He waits for Ederson to dive and slides it in the opposite direction. Napoli are back on level terms at 2-2!
61'
PENALTY! Albiol is felled by Sane after a corner, and the referee points to the spot! The German tried to pull out, but just caught his man.
59'
Whenever City play a loose ball out from the back, they all switch on and press in numbers to win it straight back. They want the ball at all times, and will play their way no matter what. It's great to watch!
56'
CHANCE! Insigne cuts inside, throws a feint in, and unleashes a shot at goal from the edge of the box, only to see it come back off the bar! Great strike from Insigne, but City escape!
54'
In a bid to rectify that, they're surging forward through Mertens, who tries to wriggle through the City defence, but is eventually crowded out and the ball is cleared away.
52'
Napoli, as great as they've been this season, could well see themselves eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage, as defeat here tonight would leave them in a very precarious situation.
48'
J. Stones has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by L. Sané.
Sané's delivery for that goal was exceptional. It had had curl, pace, everything!
GOAL! Sane whips in a wicked corner that Stones meets well in the air, and it bounces down off the crossbar. The referee looks at his watch, and gives the goal! It bounced just over the line as it crashed back off the crossbar from the centre-back's towering header. Both centre-halves have scored for City now, and that makes it 2-1 to the visitors!
47'
CHANCE! Sterling wriggles away from two and looks certain to score, but half-a-second of hesitation sees it blocked away! How did that not go in!?
46'
Napoli kick us back off for the second half of this thrilling encounter!
45' +1
Delph scuffs a volley into the ground and Napoli get away with just a throw. It's worked back out to De Bruyne, whose own long-range effort is blocked, and that looks like it for the half.
45'
De Bruyne pulls the strings and sets Sterling through on the right, but the winger's cross is blocked away. The Belgian has showed glimpses of his outstanding ability in this first half, but there's more to come from him.
42'
Sterling races towards the byline before being bumped over by Hysaj! The referee takes his time, but decides it's no penalty. It's a good decision, as the contact was minimal.
41'
CHANCE! Aguero meets the ball from a free-kick with a diving header, but it flies past the post. City are certainly in the ascendancy now.
39'
CHANCE! City work the corner well again and Otamendi can't get on it at the back post again, before Stones' follow-up header crashes off the bar!
38'
Gundogan's attempt to play out from the back almost backfires horribly as the ball is picked off, but Delph wins it back and City charge up the other end, where Sterling's deflected striker earns his side a corner!
37'
Sane picks off Albiol's poor pass out from defence, and runs at the back line, before winning a throw. His pace will cause lots of problems down the wing for veteran Maggio.
34'
N. Otamendi has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by İ. Gündoğan.
GOAL! Otamendi levels the scores with his first-ever Champions League goal! He's silenced the home crowd! Gundogan lofts the ball to the back post as a corner is worked short and Otamendi towers above Hysaj to power his header in at the back post. It's 1-1 and the game is very much on here!
Lovely ball from Gündoğan, who lofted it perfectly to the back post with his weaker left foot.
33'
CHANCE! De Bruyne surges through the middle and plays Sterling in on the right, who cuts it back to Aguero is space. His first touch takes him away from goal a little, but the striker chooses to shoot on the turn when Gundogan and Sane were in space to his left. His shot deflects just wide, though, and could well have snuck in!
32'
It's getting a little feisty now, with some angry words exchanged between opposing sets of players on more than one occasion.
31'
C. Maggio enters the game and replaces F. Ghoulam.
Ghoulam is forced off due to that injury, and Napoli lose a very important player in the left-back. He's replaced by Maggio - a right-back by trade. Sterling may fancy his chances one-on-one with the substitute.
Maggio has actually slotted in at right-back, while Hysaj shifts across to left-back.
28'
Aguero is fouled, and he gets half a chance as the free-kick is worked wide and then back into the centre, but his shot is charged down. He's not really been involved much as of yet.
26'
Insigne gets forward on the left as a City attack breaks down and tries to dink it towards Mertens, but City just about deal with it. Mertens is still limping a little.
24'
Ghoulam goas down in the City penalty area, and is hobbling about the pitch a little. Mertens looks to have taken a bit of a knock as well. Worrying signs for Napoli.
21'
L. Insigne has scored a goal for Napoli! Assist by D. Mertens.
GOAL! Fantastic football from Napoli!! Insigne plays a quick one-two with Mertens and slices through the City defence before curling the ball inside the far post! Great goal and Napoli take the lead! It's 1-0!
Mertens is hardly a target forward, but the converted winger showed great centre-forward play to return the ball to Insigne first-time with his back to goal. Excellent link-up.
19'
Mertens races through onto a long ball, turns Stones and passes the ball into the net, but the flag is already up for offside and City had stopped playing. The Belgian looks dangerous tonight.
17'
Allan does excellently to break up an attack that was building after City cleared a Napoli corner, and he gets his team back on the front foot. He's a big presence in that midfield area for Napoli.
16'
Insigne races away as he sparks a counter-attack, but his pass infield is just behind Allan, and it breaks down.
15'
Sterling gets away from Ghoulam, but his cross is headed clear. That will be an interesting battle out on that flank.
13'
CHANCE! Aguero's shot is blocked in the box and Napoli race down the other end. Mertens gets away down the left again, but goes for goal from a tight angle rather than pulling back for Hamsik, and Ederson makes the stop low and hangs on. Maybe the wrong decision there.
12'
CHANCE! Mertens is slipped in behind as he beats Stones for pace, but his first-time, chipped effort isn't high enough and Ederson collects comfortably.
11'
City are penned into their own half, but they insist on playing out from the back instead of going long, and they get it out - eventually. Napoli have had them penned back in the first 10 minutes or so, though.
9'
Napoli have started the brighter of the two teams, playing predominantly down the left flank. Insigne's cross is blocked, before Callejon blazes one over.
7'
Mertens is brought down by Otamendi as he looked to surge into the box, winning a free-kick in a dangerous area. Mertens smashes the ball into the wall, though.
6'
Hamsik blasts one at goal from outside the area, but it's straight into the gloves of Ederson. Both he and Aguero are chasing records tonight.
5'
Callejon gets caught in two minds as his effort towards goal is neither cross nor shot, and it rolls harmlessly out for a goal kick.
4'
Sane shows fantastic close control to wriggle away from two and play the ball infield. De Bruyne helps it on for the onrushing Sterling, but he's crowded out in the penalty area. The young German has started brightly.
3'
Otamendi cleans up after the ball just falls ahead of Mertens, who was lurking in an attempt to stab the ball in.
2'
Both teams starting positively here, Napoli playing a very high line and looking to push forward. Sane gets a chance as City counter, but a free-kick is awarded Napoli's way.
1'
And the referee's whistle gets us underway!
Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Champions League group stage clash between Napoli and Manchester City at the Stadio San Paolo.
The lineups have been announced, and we'll start with the home side.
Napoli XI (4-3-3): Reina; Ghoulam, Koulibaly, Albiol, Hysaj; Hamsik, Jorginho, Allan; Insigne, Mertens, Callejon
Napoli substitutes: Maggio, Zielinski, Chiriches, Sepe, Rog, Ounas, Diawara
Manchester City XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Delph, Otamendi, Stones, Danilo; Gundogan, Fernandinho, De Bruyne; Sane, Aguero, Sterling
Manchester City substitutes: Bravo, Walker, Mangala, Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Jesus, Toure
Pep Guardiola's Manchester City come into this game in confident mood, having won their last 13 games in all competitions, and are unbeaten in their last 21. Another win here would book their place in the knockout stages.
This is also the first time CIty have ever won their first three fixtures in the Champions League. However, they do not have a good record in Italy, having won just once in away games to Italian opposition. But Napoli will have to improve their recent Champions League form, with just one win in their last five games in the competition - including a 2-1 reverse against today's visitors.
This is a new Manchester City under Guardiola, however, and despite being on the road, they will look to dominate possession as they have done so successfully in the competition this season. Only Barcelona have attempted more passes, while City boast the best pass completion rate (90%), and the play who has attempted the most passes in the competition so far in John Stones with 320 and a 96% completion rate.
Napoli are unbeaten themselves at the top of Serie A, but have already lost twice in the Champions League, and lie disappointingly third in the group, behind Shakhtar Donetsk. They make just two changes from their previous game - a 3-1 win over Sassuolo - as Chiriches and Maggio are replaced by Koulibaly and Hysaj, respectively.
Manchester City have made four changes, with Walker, David Silva, Bernardo Silva, and Jesus all dropping to the bench, while Danilo, Gundogan, Sterling, and Aguero, respectively, take their places in the starting XI.
However, the two key changes made from the reverse fixture for Napoli see Zielinski and goalscorer Diawara drop to the bench, in favour of Allan and reported Arsenal target Jorginho. The incoming midfielders are perhaps more combative than their counterparts, and will look to make life difficult for Manchester City. It should be a thrilling clash between the two top teams in Italy and England, both of whom are playing thrilling, exciting, attacking football.
And it's half-time! A fantastic first half saw Napoli dominate early on and take a deserved lead through Insigne, who played a superb one-two with Mertens before tucking his shot inside the far post. However, an injury to Ghoulam forced him off, and Napoli struggled to regain their rhythm following the change. City made their resurgence count as they drew level through Otamandi, who was found at the back post by Gundogan's lofted ball after a short corner, and the centre-back thumped his header home. And they could have made it 2-1 as Otamendi again lurked at the back post, before Stones' header hit the bar from the follow-up. Both sides are playing excellent football, but the momentum is now with City, and it remains to be seen if Napoli can rally following the loss of their first-choice left-back, who is undoubtedly crucial to the way they play. It's 1-1 at the break.
And that's the end of a truly thrilling clash! Manchester City triumph 4-2 in a very high-quality affair. Insigne opened the scoring with a lovely goal, playing a neat one-two with Mertens before tucking it away. However, Ghoulam's injury handed City the impetus, and Otamendi levelled the scores with a thumping downward header from Gundogan's lofted cross, before Stones' header in off the crossbar put the visitors ahead. However, Jorginho's cool penalty restored parity, until Aguero - who else - put his side back in front with his record-breaking goal into the bottom corner, before Sterling's stoppage time strike put gloss on the win and settlled the contest definitively! It finishes 4-2, and what a game it was!
