We're underway at the Vicente Calderon.
Jorge Sampaoli's men crashed out of the Champions League during the week at the hands of Leicester, and would have faced today's opponents in the quarter-finals of the Champions League had they beaten the Foxes. However, they still have slim hopes of competing for the title, although they cannot afford to slip up today.
Both clubs are in a battle to maintain their position in the top four of the table, with Villarreal in striking distance of Atletico in the final Champions League place. The title is beyond Diego Simeone's men, but they remain in Europe's elite competition and will want to retain their place in the top four.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the LaLiga clash between Atletico Madrid and Sevilla at the Vicente Calderon.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Simeone has made four changes from his side's goalless draw against Bayer Leverkusen during the week. Filipe Luis, Stefan Savic, Gabi and Kevin Gameiro are all recalled into the line-up this afternoon.
Sevilla have made two changes from their defeat to Leicester at the King Power Stadium. Vicente Iborra and Nicolas Pareja miss out, with Mariano and Clement Lenglet coming into the side.
STAT ATTACK! Atletico are unbeaten in their last seven matches against Sevilla on home soil. Their last defeat against Los Blanquirrojos at the Vicente Calderon came in 2008.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
HALF-TIME: ATLETICO MADRID 1-0 SEVILLA
Atletico hold a 1-0 lead at the break thanks to Diego Godin's headed effort. It has been a game of few chances and the opening only came around for Diego Simeone's men due to a mistake in the Sevilla backline after the visitors had defended so well for the opening 35 minutes of the game.
Wissam Ben Yedder has been isolated, leading the line for Jorge Sampaoli's men, leading to a poor moment when he flung himself to the ground in an attempt to win a penalty. Fortunately for the visitors he was not book, but Sevilla must give him more support in the second period.
FULL-TIME: ATLETICO MADRID 3-1 SEVILLA
Atletico Madrid close within two points of Sevilla in third place as a result of their victory this afternoon. Goals from Diego Godin, Antoine Griezmann and Koke were enough for Diego Simeone's men to solidify their top-four spot, capping a good week following their progression in the Champions League.
A bad week for Sevilla ends with a disappointing performance. Jorge Sampaoli will not be happy with his team as they allowed Atletico to take the game away from them in the second half, with the home side easing to victory. They will need to respond to this defeat after the international break.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
